In the frame of LIFE ClimatePath2050 project, we conducted a photo competition for youth entitled Climate Path. Since the project is also focusing on climate action until 2050 – that said the climate that they will live in and experience it, we decided to focus our photo contest on young people and to see their opinion about climate actions and how they see it. The awarded photos captured how can we reduce impacts on the climate in our own households, cycling as carbon neutral transport, forests as carbon sinks and the problems with plastic.
The photo contest took place from January to June 2018. Young people between 14 and 29 years old were invited to submit their photos reflecting the topic of climate change mitigation (e.g., climate actions, examples of good climate actions, the need for climate action, co-benefits and synergies of climate actions).
The jury of the photo contest deciding on the winning photo consisted of: prof. dr. Jadran Lenarcic, director of the Jožef Stefan Institute, Katarina Trstenjak – a member of the project LIFE ClimatePath2050 (C5 leader) and photographer Arne Hodalič, who is one of the most known Slovenian professional photographer.
All together we have received 117 photos. The jury selected, based on technical quality and the message about climate mitigation/action, three winning photos whose authors were awarded with sustainable active mobility: urban electrical bike, scooter and longboard.
The photo contest was concluded with a short ceremony where Arne Hodalič held and an interesting lecture about photographing different environments in the world and human impacts on them.
